Cyprus

Cyprus

As a family trip away, me, my sister, my mum and my dad went to Cyprus for part of his work doing Trinity Rock And Pop workshops. We stayed at a hotel in Limassol but the greeks call it Limassos. Around 230 thousand people live in Limassol.

On Monday 4th June, we got to the hotel about ten minutes from Luton airport. In the hotel, we hung around for a while watching TV. That night we went to eat tea at the Beefeater next door to the hotel.

When we got to the airport, on Tuesday, we had a forty-five minute wait for our gate to open. When our gate had opened, we got on the plane to have a smooth take-off. This was forth time I had been on an aroplane to somewhere as I went to Portugal, Spain and Italy. As I was very tired on the plane, because I had been awake nearly all night due to the uncomfortable bed, I had a big snooze. The journey took about four hours. When I had woken up, I saw mountains below which looked very snowey. Lots of people slept on the plane including me, my sister, my mum, my dad and people sitting around us so it was a nice, quiet journey. The view from the plane was incredible, you could see over the world, well, it felt like it. The towns and villages looked tiny. It looked like a huge stoney beach. The hills and mountains stuck up loads and it looked like a 3D TV. The plane landing was a bit rough and bumpy but is would be. It took a while to collect our luggage but when we had collected it, we got picked up by someone my dad works with and he had two cars, one for our luggage (we did not have that much) and the other car was his wife's and it took all of us.

When we got to the hotel (about half an hour later) we unloaded our luggage and settled in to our room. We chatted for a while with the air conditioning unit on full. The hotel was very posh.

After that my dad had to go out and do some work. Meanwhile, we wandered around near the hotel and we found the port was 12km. The sun beamed down on our faces as we were walking along the wide roads. Most of the road signs were in Greek.

At about quater past five, we sat near the outdoor swimming pool, in the shade and relaxed. You could hear lots of birds tweeting to one another (not using twitter). You could feel the heat still coming down from the gleaming sun. Outside there was a nice, cool breeze which were blowing the tall palm trees. We stuck our hands in the swimming pool and it felt freezing but that was because of the heat outside. Around us were lots of deck chairs but no-one was sitting on them. Near the hotel building the people who worked here were setting up a water fan which is a fan with a low pressure hose through it so it squrts warter through the fan blade. By around six o'clock the sun had been hidden behind the hotel but the temperature was still warm. By five past, people had already started eating their tea. The restrant IN THE hotel was starting to get busy.

We had a restaurant suggested for us so we went to check it out. It was a pizza restaurant. The waiters were very friendly and they spoke English. The main waiter who served us was from London so he sort of knew our accent. The food was brilliant as we all had pizza. At the restaurant they served take-aways as well (similar to Domino pizza).

On Wednesday, we had breakfast, which was delicious. Then my dad had to go to do some workshops for some music teachers. Meanwhile we went for a walk to the sea. The walk took us about fifteen minutes to get to the sea. The sea was nice and relaxing.

It was a sand beach so he could walk barefooted along the beach but we didn't because the sand was too hot. It felt like you were walking on fire. The sun was so hot I started to get a tan and tan lines where by top was. While we were wondering around, we saw some nice restaurants so we decided to stop off and have some lunch. We found a nice restaurant looking out on to the sea so we could watch all the ships and boats float past as we were eating out lunch.

Lunch was delicious. For lunch, I had a ham and cheese toastie. When we had eaten, we had a walk around and made out way back to the hotel. On our way back, we ice creams. I had a Boss which is the Greek version of a Magnum.

When we had got back, we sat in the room relaxing, with the air conditioning on sofly. When my dad had got back, we all went to the swimming pool and me and my dad had a swim. There was a breeze so when you got out the pool, you felt freezing. When we had finished, all went back up to the room and relaxed.

After that, we went down to the old town and had some tea. For tea I had a burger and chips. It was lovely. The town was beautiful. They had small and narrow roads running from occasional main roads.

When we had got the cab back, we decided to sit back down outside on comfy chairs, and we had a drink. I had sparkling water. Next, we went to bed.

On Thursday, I got up and got ready for the day. After breakfast, we got picked up by someone who works in me dad's friend's shop. When we got there we looked around the shop and got set up for the workshops me and my sister were participating in. In the shop they sold instruments, microphones, mixing desks and lots more. The shop had lovely equipment in there.

When we had got all set up, we were involved in a workshop. The drum kit was incredible. It was 650 Euros. This is a picture of me playing the kit.

When we got back, we had lunch at the hotel. It was delicious! After that, we went for a nice walk down to the beach. On the beach we went for paddle. Then I built a dome with a moat running round it. The moat did not have any water in it as I didn't do it close enough to the sea.

Then we went back to the old town to have some dinner. In the old town we saw lots of shops and restaurants. The restaurant that we went to was delicious. In the old town we saw someone my dad knew. I saw her at the workshop.

On Friday we got up and had some breakfast. The breakfast was really nice. Then we relaxed in the room. After that we went down to the glimmering, shiny swimming pool. It felt freezing as the temperature outside was around 30C. If the pool was in Colchester, it would feel boiling! Meanwhile my sister was revising for her R.E., G.C.S.E. When we had finished in the pool, we relaxed on the deck chairs outside.

After that, we walked to the bus stop. The bus took us to the old town. In the old town, they have small narrow roads. The old town has a beautiful old castle.

In the castle they had lots of old antiques and pottery. All of them were very clearly labelled and you could easily work out what is what and what year it comes from. On the top of the castle, there was a beautiful view across the sea:

And the old town:

The view was incredible. Everything there was very interesting (except the pottery).

After that, we took a bus back to the hotel. On the bus, I got free travels as I was 11. This is a picture of one of the tickets:

Then we relaxed in the hotel room but what did we do next...
Well, we ate some tea at the hotel which was delicious. I had a burger and chips.

Saturday was the day of the carnival. The town was really busy. On Thursday, we saw a stage ready for a band or a show.

When we got up, we had some breakfast in the hotel . Then we went and sat by the swimming pool.
When we had a dip in the pool. It felt freeing. When we were in it, we got use to it. When we were in the pool my sister was "revising" for her R.E. GCSE.

Before we left, we saw a wedding reception in the hotel. The whole place was decorated for it with pretty flowers and candles. When we got to the airport, we found out the flight was delayed six hours.. We had to sit and wait for ages. By midnight we were really tired. Just after we had found some comfy chairs and had got to sleep, we got woken up by an announcement saying "Flight ZB587 (MINE) is delayed for seven hours until six-thirty." So it was back to sleep for us.

Aylmerton Field Study Centre (AFSC)

Aylmerton Field Study Centre (AFSC)

On Monday 28th June, I went to Aylmerton Field Study Centre with school which is in North Norfolk. We left at 09:10 and got there around 11:30. The coach journey took about 2 hours 20 mins. The stay there was brilliant as we had a twilight walk on Monday night having spooky stories in the church at 11:30. It was a late night as we had our evening drink around midnight.

On Tuesday 29th June, we had a pirate day. We all had face paint put on us and here is a picture of my dorm with the pirate face paint on:

Our dorm being pirates.

We had lots of activites to do on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, we did a monster trail looking for letters (clues) to make up some words. In the afternoon, we went to a swimming centre and had a splash-about in the huge pool.

On Thursday, we took a coach to Blakeney to have a wander and look for seals. In the afternoon we had a disco at AFSC.

On Friday, we took a coach to West Runton. We went to look for rock pools on the beach to see what creatures we could find. We made our way down the beach to have lunch in a huge crater. After lunch, we walked from West Runton to Cromer. On that whole day we walked around four miles.

For breakfast we got given a menu to decide what we wanted. For tea we had a full three course meal which was soup followed by a main meal followed by desert.

In conclusion, the whole week was brilliant!
